Christmas activities in the City of Balanga began with the Switch-On Ceremony of Christmas lights at Plaza Mayor on December 1, 2017.
The occasion was witnessed by an overflow crowd of students and residents and graced by the presence of Governor Albert S. Garcia who congratulated the City Government for the successful event.
City Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, in his message, impressed among city residents the blessings the city has received and thanked the city’s partners and the Church for their support. “How blessed we are for being Balangueño, for our beautiful City. Still, may we not forget the true meaning of this season, the importance of this time of year,” he said.
The event was also attended by city councilors, employees of the city government, and members of the Balanga City Tourism Council led by President Maria Teresa L. Robles who, in her message said, “Nawa ay huwag manatili ang mga ilaw na ating natunghayan sa plaza lamang. Sana madala natin ang ilaw at liwanag ni Kristo sa sari-sarili nating patutunguhan.”
The traditional “Panuluyan,” (from the word “tuloy”, which means “to come in”), a dramatization of Joseph and Mary’s search for a place where Jesus could be born, preceded the switch-on.
The Switch-On Ceremony heralded the start of the almost-nightly Paskong Balangueno activities, a series of nightly events anticipated not only by city residents, but by residents of Bataan, in general. By: Cyrus Dela Cruz
