Through the initiative of Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Bataan Provincial Office, Balangueños would have three days to enjoy a Diskwento Caravan at Plaza Mayor de Balanga.
The Diskwento Caravan is a local trade fair where buyers can purchase cheap but high-quality products. DTI organizes the said caravan annually to give local entrepreneurs a chance of marketing their crafts.
DTI Provincial Dir. Nelin O. Cabahug and Mayor Garcia led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which signaled the formal opening of booths on the grounds of Plaza Mayor.
Mayor Garcia introduced the Diskwento Caravan to Balangueños as an extension of the on-going Brigada Eskwela 2017, an annual activity before the opening of classes in June. The Diskwento Caravan largely sells school supplies – in time for the fast approaching opening of classes.
The mayor also thanked the Provincial DTI for motivating entrepreneurs so they could showcase their products in Balanga.
A total of 70 businesses joined the local trade fair, 35 of which are local exhibitors from Bataan’s small-medium enterprises (SMEs).
The caravan’s success was sealed by the support of industries outside Bataan. A group of shoemakers from Marikina, and wholesale manufacturers erected their own tents at the Plaza Mayor. Supermarkets offered their products at discounted prices.
Among the products featured in the caravan are appliances, hygienic products, food products, bags, apparels, shoes, and school supplies.
The business owners, as well as the consumers, expressed their appreciation of the Diskwento Caravan. They regarded it as an opportunity to increase sales and to avail products at discounted prices.
Mr. Rolando Dizon and selected department heads also attended the trade fair opening as representatives of the city government.
