The celebration started with a Holy Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, followed by a parade from Plaza Mayor to Doña Francisca Park where “Hataw” dance exercise and a dental mission were conducted by the City Health Office (CHO).
Councilor Elmo Sanchez greeted all those present.
In his message, Councilor Benigno Meriño, chairman of the Committee on Senior Citizens, assured the seniors that he will “continue to promote projects for senior citizens, because I, myself, am also a certified senior citizen.”
Other members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod also delivered their message of thanks and inspiration with Councilor Victor Baluyot highlighting the contributions made by senior citizens to the younger generation, a sentiment also shared by Councilor Jorescel Panganiban, and encouraging continued collaboration with City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). Councilor Ricardo Magpantay expressed his hope that “we all reach 100 years to maximize our contribution to society.” Meanwhile, ABC Pres. Elmer Castrence, reiterated the need to keep a healthy lifestyle to live a longer life.
Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. Gozon pointed out the role of senior citizens in shaping the values of the young. “Wag po tayong matakot, or magsawa na paalalahanan ang mga kabataan because we all have a great part in shaping the values of the youth. The city government is always here to support the senior citizens who are dearly loved,” she said.
For her part, Ms. Gloria Abejar, CSWD Officer, thanked Balanga City Lion’s Club, Bataan (Host) Lion’s Club and the City Health Office (CHO) for sponsoring the event.
Other guests who delivered messages of thanks and encouragement include Balanga City Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Chairperson Ms. Nida Samson, Guest Speaker Engineer Mendoza, and Balanga City Lion’s Club President Dr. Owen Gloria.
The event also saw song and dance presentations by senior citizens and raffles.
