A night of fruitful harvest.
Aside from planting and harvesting crops, farmers from Balanga City flaunted their special talents and creativity during the celebration of Farm Family Day at Plaza Mayor on December 12.
To start off, “Pahiyas-inspired” booths were set up by Kasama Ani sa Barangay (KaAniB) farmers and merchants for the activity to look more like an organic festival to attract more buyers. KaAniB Cataning clinched the Best Booth Award.
Meanwhile, Barb-MPC members danced their way to win the Cultural Presentation Contest besting SAMAC-A and KAANIB DFS. There were also special numbers from the Upland Farmers’ Association members who dedicated their performances to Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia.
According to the City Agriculture Office, there is a need to acknowledge and honor farmers’ important contribution through this event as they have served as the city government’s partner in sustaining economic growth through agricultural development.
Farm Family Day takes cognizance of the challenges the agricultural sector faces, and motivates and strengthens farmers to continue to actively participate in all endeavors of the city government.
This year’s event presented the achievements and accomplishments of local farmers and their contribution to the community in 2017 through an audio-visual presentation.
Mayor Francis’ wife, Racquel Francis Garcia, remarked that the city’s vision to become an education and tech-oriented city would not be possible if agriculture is not given priority.
To make the event more active, surprise awards for the Most Outstanding Farmer Leader were given to Lordelina Sabino and Romeo Guevarra; Most Active Agricultural Organization to Balanga Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries–MPC; Most Supportive Agricultural Organization to Tuyo Farmers’ Agricultural Cooperative and Upper Maluya Farmers’ Association; and Best KaAniB Cooperator, again to Guevarra.
Also present in the event were Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. Gozon, Board Member Gaudencio Ferrer and Councilor Benigno Meriño who all gave warm messages to participants.
