Today saw the start of a much-awaited event for twenty (20) technology enthusiasts who signed a contract with partner Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises (MSME’s) selected by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Bataan.
Under the Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) program of the City of Balanga, these scholars passed standards set by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). Bataan Information and Communications Technology Development Council (BICTDC) and the City Education and Excellence Development Office (CEEDO) assisted DICT in the selection process.
In his message, Mayor Francis Anthony Garcia articulated that the City Government of Balanga is trying its best to bring in new technology, especially to the grassroots of society. This includes giving every one opportunity to have access to the latest technology that the City can offer and create new connections, not only within the City, but with the whole province, the entire country and, eventually, the whole world.
Ms. Cherly C. Ortega, DICT Luzon Cluster 2 Director, congratulated the new scholars and their MSME partners. She emphasized that though this training may not be easy, she assured them that, “DICT will be with you every step of the way. Opportunity is already here, hence, there is no more need to go beyond the boundaries of the city. What truly matters is touching the right partners and agencies,” she continued. She expressed hope that Balanga, as one of the emerging cities, will continue to climb up to become one among the top ten (10) cities in the country.
Engr. Melan Mamalateo, DICT Course Officer, gave trainees the project overview, schedules, guidelines and house rules. Mr. Edgardo Genesis Reonico Jr., Trainer and President of Digital Career Advocates of the Philippines, gave a synopsis on what to expect about the training and the expectations between trainers and trainees.
Councilors Vic Baluyot and Joy Panganiban also graced the event accompanied by City Government of Balanga’s department heads.
After the formal opening followed a press conference with Mayor Garcia and members of the DICT led by Ms. Ortega. Members of the local media group including Sikat FM 91.1, Bataan Defenders News, Bataan News Hook, Bataan Tower News, Bataan Primestar, Bataan Press Club, DWIZ, CLTV 36, Power Radio 104.5 FM, and TV5/ Radyo Singko participated.
