Mikhaela Baluyot happily took home the crown in this year’s Mutya ng Lungsod ng Balanga Beauty Pageant.
Mutya ng Lungsod ng Balanga 2017 ended with a bang on the rainy evening of April 25 as Baluyot, who hails from Tortugas, landed on the throne, leaving the more popular Shanda Nhaye Mangalindan who bagged First Runner-up.
Out of 15 official candidates, Mangalindan bagged most of the awards from sponsors during the pre-pageant night on April 21. For the first time, Mutya pageant was broadcast live on Facebook, enabling people to informally place their bets on the most popular candidate.
However, the tables were turned in the grand coronation night when the candidates faced the judges in the question-and-answer portion.
Five candidates were chosen from the original 15 during the coronation night. Aside from Baluyot and Mangalindan, these five finalists included MJ Osayan, Maria Cressy Arnoco, and Jessi Mari Ann Arnas.
Prior to the announcement of finalists, the Mutya candidates impressed the crowd in their evening gowns.
After the evening gown competition, the candidates proved their wit in the question-and-answer portion.
When asked if she would like to live in the shoes of somebody for just a single day, Baluyot answered “yes”. She continued, saying that she would like to live in the shoes of none other than Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia.
“I would like to be Mayor Francis, for I want to experience how to care for my people. I want to experience how it is like thinking of their welfare,” said Baluyot.
New Reigning Beauty Queens
Osayan, Arnoco, and Arnas were respectively hailed as second, third, and fourth runner-ups.
The previous year’s muses were present to turnover their crowns. Rolyn Tungol, 2016’s Mutya ng Balanga had her final walk as a sign of gratitude to her supporters.
Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia and wife Raquel personally crowned Baluyot as the new Mutya ng Balanga.
Aside from Balanga’s first couple, Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita Gozon was also present. Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod joined the vice-mayor in giving minor awards to candidates.
Since Ms. Raquel Garcia now serves as the Balanga City Tourism Council (BCTC) chairperson, members of the council also attended the event.
More than the beauty queen’s honorific titles, the new Mutya ng Balanga winners were given advocacies in various areas such as “Culture and Heritage”, “Eco-tourism”, and “Excellence”.
Annual City-wide Effort
The City Tourism Office headed by Ms. Lolita Del Rosario and the City Accounting Office headed by Ms. Myrna Roman joined hands to make the Mutya ng Balanga Pageant successful.
Also, the City General Services Office provided very generous technical support not only in the pageant’s conduct, but in all events related to Balanga’s month-long Banga Festival. |Arli Atienza
